Does it do what it says on the tin?
Yes I think so. I personally have kind of dark blonde/ dirty blonde hair which I really disliked.. I didn't want to shell out for expensive hair dying due to a) the cost and b) the possibility of it backfiring and not suiting me. So I tried Marilyn, mostly due to the natural ethos of Lush because I thought that it couldn't hurt my hair.

It's really gloopy but you get used to applying it to your hair eventually. I parted my hair in sections as my hair is fairly long - then I just smoothed some of the treatment on my hair. Lush suggest leaving it on your hair for 20 minutes before washing out with shampoo and conditioner, but I don't think it would harm to leave it in longer.

So what do I think?
Marilyn is great. You don't have to be a blonde to use it as the main benefit of it is that it simply improves and conditions your hair. For blondes, I think it does gradually make your hair lighter and generally also makes your blonde brighter as well.

Would I use it again?
Without a doubt. I'm already on my second pot.

Positives?
+ The smell - I think it smells amazing but I also think it's completely a matter of personal taste.
+ It's all natural like all Lush products so it can't be doing as much harm to my hair as proper dyes.

Negatives?
- The cost - it's not cheap and you'll need to use a fair amount, but then again, if it works for you it's much cheaper than dyeing your hair professionally.

Overall:
I love this product and will continue to buy it. It may be a little pricey but it's worth a try in my opinion! Give it a go..
